Marbella is, by virtue of its own merits, one of the main destinations on the Costa del Sol. Its excellent climate, its beaches, its natural surroundings and its important sports complexes are just some of the countless attractions offered by this municipality on the coast of Malaga. 

With more than 147,000 inhabitants, it is the second most populated municipality in the province of Malaga. It is also one of the most important tourist towns on the Costa del Sol and in the whole of Spain.

Marbella is situated on the shores of the Mediterranean, between Málaga and the Strait of Gibraltar, on the slopes of the Sierra Blanca. Facing a beautiful bay is the beautiful old town of Marbella, full of houses with white facades adorned with railings and geraniums. Between the old town and the sea, in the area known as the “Ensanche Histórico”, are the Paseo de la Alameda, where there is a small botanical garden, and the Avenida del Mar, a landscaped avenue with fountains and a collection of ten sculptures by Salvador Dalí, which connects the old town to the beach.

For most of the year it is a centre of attraction for international tourism thanks mainly to its climate and tourist infrastructure. Although less well known, the city also has a significant archaeological heritage, with several museums and scenic areas.

Marbella has experienced continuous growth throughout the 20th and early 21st centuries, developing an economy based on the tourist offer aimed at visitors and temporary residents with medium and high purchasing power.

Fried fish, ajoblanco (a cold soup with almonds, oil and garlic) and gazpacho are some of the tasty offerings of Marbella´s gastronomy.
